International Institute of Mass Media [IIMM] was set up in 1999 by a group of professionals who had set out to achieve excellence in mass media education and training. The aim was to create an institution that would fill up the gaps in the mass media education sector, which was an urgent requirement of the times.
Today our success can be measured by the fact that we have a presence, both in placements and internships, in all the leading media organisations of the country. We are among the top ten media institutes in India and are a known name in media colleges and mass communication education.
It’s been a long journey and we have covered ground in many different ways. There were the highs and lows as it happens with everybody but now we can identify our strengths and talk about them.
We were the first few institutions to get practicing professionals from the mass media to come and teach and train our students. This made our inputs industry relevant. So we have people coming in from television channels like NDTV, Aaj Tak, TIMES NOW, Zee TV, Sahara, IBN 7; print media Bharti Films, Inverted Images. We also have faculty who come from leading corporate organizations like Saatchi & Saatchi, Ogilvy & Mather, Ideas Guild, Fourth Estate, Perfect Relations, Genesis PR among many others. This has put us in the league of the top ten media colleges.
Our faculty is another of our strengths. They are one of the pillars who have made our journey a success. They provide the best industry relevant, teaching and training that helps our students to get the top jobs in the emerging mass media industry. The employees, staff and management of IIMM are professionals who have studied and worked in the premier institutions and organizations of the country including top mass media organizations.
We have studios at three levels – in the classroom, at a beginner's level in one teaching block and then at an advanced/ commercial level in the other teaching block. We have the best of cameras, lights, still cameras, print photography studio, newsreading studio, PCR, teleprompters, radio studio and an DAVP RNI registered newspaper Yuva Udaan on which the students get a real life industry experience of putting a newspaper together and taking it to market. These we use to conduct assignment and project based teaching. This helps our students to build their production portfolio. This blend of theory and practical teaching makes our students industry ready.
IIMM functions under a registered society/trust and is a Not for Profit Organization. We are not into mass media education commercially for profits but rather we spend more on educating the students than the fees we charge the students for our Mass Communication courses. IIMM functions through only the funds of its members and the fees paid by the students and takes no help or grants from any other body or entity.
We provide a UGC recognised degree to the students and it is nationally and internationally recognised. This enables the students to get both government and private sector openings.
Also keeping the industry perspective in mind we give a lot of training and teaching beyond the university syllabus. This is formalised as a diploma given by the Board of Governors of IIMM on successful completion of specialization in journalism or corporate communications (advertising and public relations) or production and direction in the senior year of the student's degree course. So effectively the students get a dual Diploma and Degree. Our degrees and diplomas include BJMC, MA in Mass Communication [MMC], Bachelors Degree in Media, BA in Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations.
To realise our dream and mission, we are located at South Extension in South Delhi. This is a hub of student activity and most importantly it is well connected to all areas of the NCR - Gurgaon, NOIDA, Faridabad and Ghaziabad. This makes it easy and efficient for all students to commute and also to do their practical work, assignments, projects and research very effectively.
